Trekking to the far end of the world - Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

Hidden away from the rest of the world, Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Patagonia, Chile is a beautiful gem that completely blew my mind during our 5 day trek last week. I still dream about it every night and can't wait to go back.

What is it about lighthouses?

I love lighthouses. And I know I'm not the only one. The attraction lighthouses has on me is equivalent to what lots of people feel when they see a brand new Aston Martin in the street or probably how a horse enthusiast feels when a proud Arabic horse is running across the fields in the sunset. There's something magic about them.

Hanging around the Kayak Center in Grebbestad

skapad 2012-08-14 i 'Green Adventures Blog'

This summer I’ve spent a few weeks working at the Kayak Center in Grebbestad. The center is run by Mats Torwmo and is based some 50 km from the Norweigan border and the village Grebbestad it self is a very charming, fishermen’s village with lots of old wooden houses, a board walk along the sea, lots of cozy restaurants but also some pumping night life if that’s what you are looking for.

The beautiful setting and the wonderful paddling waters makes this part of the coast a perfect paddel destination. The Kayak Center is actually situated on the water (well most of it at least) and the deck/dock outside the kayak shop makes for a perfect place to get organized for a trip, have a cup of coffee and it’s a great working environment for the staff at the center.

While I was working at the center last week, Nick ran one BCU 3 Star training course and one BCU 4 Star training course. Above this there was the normal activity of the center like rentals, selling kayaks and paddle equipment, private lessons, fixing kayaks and of course some ice cream eating once in a while. I also took the time to go for some rolling sessions and a morning paddle with the gang one beautiful, calm morning. I definitely should do more of that.

I really enjoyed my time in Grebbestad. So big thanks to Mats, Lars, Niklas, Bernhard, Åsa, Jonte, all the clients and other friends and people who showed up there during the time I was there. Have a great autumn and hope to see you on the water one day!

If you click the pictures, they will be presented in a Light Box.

It's always interesting to see what the clients bring on their paddling trips and how they squeeze everything down in the kayaks.

This years colour is lime. Especially on the Necky Elize models. It's a bit poisonous don't you think? But quite cool.

It's so great to see the joy of kids getting into a kayak for the first time. This cool girl had a great day on the water she told me when she got back.

Lars and Åsa chilling with some coffee. Breaks are as important as the actual work, don't you agree Mats? ;-)

Mats and Jan-Åke got up early one morning to catch some mackerels. And they came back with a whole bunch of them.

Nick and I got to use Bernhards sailingboat one evening and oh what a great thing that was! Would love to do some more of that!
