Trekking to the far end of the world - Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

Hidden away from the rest of the world, Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Patagonia, Chile is a beautiful gem that completely blew my mind during our 5 day trek last week. I still dream about it every night and can't wait to go back.

What is it about lighthouses?

I love lighthouses. And I know I'm not the only one. The attraction lighthouses has on me is equivalent to what lots of people feel when they see a brand new Aston Martin in the street or probably how a horse enthusiast feels when a proud Arabic horse is running across the fields in the sunset. There's something magic about them.

New paddle and old friends

skapad 2012-08-13 i 'Green Adventures Blog'

It was three years ago since it last happened. It was three years ago Anna and Johan asked me if we could go for a paddle somewhere on the west coast of Sweden. I never turn down friends asking questions like that. The more the merrier I think and so we did. We had a great day on the water and promised we would do this again the following summer. But then life happened and some other things came in our way, so when they finally showed up last week with a big smile on their faces, we knew that it had been worth waiting for this day.

Our original plan was to do an overnight trip, pitching our tent on an island somewhere between the island of Orust and Tjörn, but the weather forecast said strong winds and a lot of rain. So instead we hiked on day 1 and on that evening, we watched some of Nick's instructional DVD. The part from the tidal race at Falls of Lora especially caught Annas attention and I bet she felt really inspired going sea kayaking the day after. And so we did. It was a nice and gentle day on the water on the north side of the island and I got the chance to try the new Greenland paddle I had recieved a few days before from my good friend Martin Nielsen in Denmark.

Martin is the designer behind the Arrow Ivalu, their Greenland style kayak that I've spent many hours in. They stayed in my house for a few days while I was working in Stockholm and then he wanted to send me a paddle as a gift. Wonderful idea from wonderful people. And what a wonderful paddle it is. It's so smooth, thin and beautiful to paddle with and oh, it smells really good too. So thank you Martin for a great gift. I truly appreciate it!

And thanks Anna and Johan for getting me out on the sea on one of the few days off I've had lately. It's so easy to get stuck in work related tasks, but I'm very happy you joined me for a few days here on the west coast.

If you click the images, they will be presented in a Light Box.

It was a pretty windy day on the west coast of the island Tjörn, so we went to the calmer side where it was just perfect conditions for a nice paddle.

In the company of two danes, the Arrow Nuka and the smooth Greenland paddle. A great combination.

Anna ended the day with some powerful paddle strokes a la Nick Cunliffe. I don't know if she paddled very fast but she did at least get wet!

And Johan took a nap in his boat while the two girls were giggling all the way back to the launching point.
