Trekking to the far end of the world - Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

Hidden away from the rest of the world, Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Patagonia, Chile is a beautiful gem that completely blew my mind during our 5 day trek last week. I still dream about it every night and can't wait to go back.

What is it about lighthouses?

I love lighthouses. And I know I'm not the only one. The attraction lighthouses has on me is equivalent to what lots of people feel when they see a brand new Aston Martin in the street or probably how a horse enthusiast feels when a proud Arabic horse is running across the fields in the sunset. There's something magic about them.

Sunny Side Up out paddling around Marstrand.

skapad 2012-07-10 i 'Green Adventures Blog'

I had done the sun dance every evening, a week before this trip was about to take place. And I think it worked!

At 10.00 last Wednesday, I met the guys from the communication bureau the Sunny Side up, based in Gothenburg. They seemed to be all very excited in getting out on the water. So after the introduction demonstrations were over, the sun screen was applied on every nose and the lunch was packed in the kayaks, we left the Marstrand kayak center behind us and went for a nice and sunny paddle around the more southerly island called Klåverön. Since there were hardly no winds this day, we could just paddle in the speed we wanted to without too much effort.

The narrow channel called Albrektssund was quiet and when we stopped for lunch, a few of the paddlers decided to go for a swim. The rest of us watched them swimming, sitting safely on land...

On the other side of the island, the light winds died and I think lots of the people, just went into meditation mode, cause it went oh so quiet. It's a magical feeling to sit there on the surface in your kayak and all you here is the water dripping from you paddle blades.

After the second stop, that all changed though. There was a big match race in Marstrand, so when we got closer to the village again, we were suddenly in the middle of all the sailing boats that were about to start a race. Well, not actually in the middle of them, but it was such a difference from coming from the other side with the big silence, to this circus of boats, people and engines everywhere. Different, but pretty cool.

So thank you all who joined me from the Sunny Side Up on this trip. I hope to see you again soon!

If you click the pictures, they will be presented in a light box.

The first few strokes are always the worst. But Christoffer was a pro right from the beginning.

And what do you say about these guys!??!?! ;-)

On the other side of Klåverön, the wind had gone somewhere else to play, so we were all alone with just mr Silence.

Heading for the beach where the coffee was waiting for us. Do I need to say there was a race?!?!

Apart from all the jellyfish, the bird shit and the clay bottom where we all got stuck, this was a great place for a break!

Of course we had to try to go under the bridge. Take me to the place I love...

Slowly working our way back to Marstrand. The old fortress ahead of us.

Big cow eyes staring at us. I guess this cow won the lottery, to be placed out here for the summer.

Blue water between us and the fortress. A great day is almost over.
