Trekking to the far end of the world - Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

Hidden away from the rest of the world, Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Patagonia, Chile is a beautiful gem that completely blew my mind during our 5 day trek last week. I still dream about it every night and can't wait to go back.

What is it about lighthouses?

I love lighthouses. And I know I'm not the only one. The attraction lighthouses has on me is equivalent to what lots of people feel when they see a brand new Aston Martin in the street or probably how a horse enthusiast feels when a proud Arabic horse is running across the fields in the sunset. There's something magic about them.

Sunny course with happy people

skapad 2012-07-02 i 'Green Adventures Blog'

I spent last weekend in the southern part of Sweden, in Helsingborg, which is almost my home town. Leif from Aterra had organized two days of training with some people who wanted to spend the whole weekend learning how to paddle. He thought he himself would be paddling in Slovenia at the time, so he wanted me to run the course.

The weather forecast was pretty dark a few days before the course was supposed to take place, but in the end we all agreed on that we've been really lucky with the weather. And as you know, the weather is what we Swedes always talk about. We got a tiny rain shower on the first day, and we had some wind to fight that created a pretty tricky launch point, and on day 2, the winds changed direction, with out any prior notice, but other than that we had loads of sun and it was a fun weekend.

After a short introduction, talking about the kayaks, paddling equipment, basic paddling techniques and best ways of launching, we got on the water and realized it would be a little choppy today on the sea. This added to the excitment and I think everyone was enjoying this in their own personal way. ;-)

During the two days we spent together, we did lots of forward paddling, rescues, launchings and landings, self rescues and we also managed to take the time to have an ice cream!

So thank you Anki, Lotta, Marie-Louise, Jonas and Björn for joining me and I hope you'll all get into a kayak again in the near future. See you on the water!

If you click the pictures, they'll be presented in a Light Box.

And so was I!

Anki had no problems getting back into her boat again and I think so got pretty warm in her dry suit when she was pumping out the water from the cockpit.

Lotta is finishing off the course with a BIG smile! And I promise, I didn't bribe her!
