Trekking to the far end of the world - Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

Hidden away from the rest of the world, Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Patagonia, Chile is a beautiful gem that completely blew my mind during our 5 day trek last week. I still dream about it every night and can't wait to go back.

What is it about lighthouses?

I love lighthouses. And I know I'm not the only one. The attraction lighthouses has on me is equivalent to what lots of people feel when they see a brand new Aston Martin in the street or probably how a horse enthusiast feels when a proud Arabic horse is running across the fields in the sunset. There's something magic about them.

Paddle meet in winter wonder land

skapad 2012-02-12 i 'Green Adventures Blog'

Two days packed with discussions with agreements and disagreements. Two days full of brand new exciting thoughts and some old recycled ideas. Two days of old topics that doesn't want to be solved so easily. Two days with tasty food and sugary licorice. Two days of black coffee and 5 minute breaks. Two days of no paddling but with good company in beautiful surroundings. Two days with NIL, Nordic Instructor's License. It's been a different weekend but a very interesting one.

The Swedish paddling scheme had invited me to join them, to become a member and an assessor within the scheme. An offer I just couldn't turn down. So the weekend was the first meeting I've attended and it was a weekend full of content. Between the breaks and the chewing of licorice, home baked bread and saffron pancakes, lots of brain storming was being done.

So after the official opening of the meeting by Stefan (founder of the scheme), Benjamin Donner from NIL Finland gave us a report of how they have been working within their scheme over the last year and the progress they have done. Sweden and Finland have similar water environments for sea kayaking and therefor it was very interesting to get to know what's going on on the other side of the Baltic sea. And without revealing any secrets I can tell you that there will be some changes within the Swedish scheme as well. Maybe...

I'm very happy to have been invited to this meeting and I hope there will be lots of occasions where we all get to share our thougts, ideas and experiences with one another. And of course lots of serious coffee and tea drinking! And hopefully some paddling too...

If you would like to learn more about NIL, please click here.

So thanks for the good company Carin, Lars, Stefan, Hans, Andi, Tommy, Ulf och Benjamin.
Hope to see you again soon!

If you click the pictures, they will be shown in a light box.

Frozen water can also be beautiful. Especially out in the middle of the forest, in the middle of nowhere.

Coffee and tea, a must at meetings.

Early start around the table. The concentration is high and intense.

Addictive Finnish licorice. What shall we bring to Finland next time? Meatballs?
