Trekking to the far end of the world - Torres del Paine National Park, Chile

Hidden away from the rest of the world, Torres del Paine National Park in Southern Patagonia, Chile is a beautiful gem that completely blew my mind during our 5 day trek last week. I still dream about it every night and can't wait to go back.

What is it about lighthouses?

I love lighthouses. And I know I'm not the only one. The attraction lighthouses has on me is equivalent to what lots of people feel when they see a brand new Aston Martin in the street or probably how a horse enthusiast feels when a proud Arabic horse is running across the fields in the sunset. There's something magic about them.

Upside down with Helen Wilson

skapad 2011-07-10 i 'Green Adventures Blog'

Helen Wilson, from California USA, specializes in traditional paddling skills using a traditional Greenland paddle and a norsaq. She´s got a looooong list of rolls on her CV and she is travelling all over the world to give rolling classes. In the last few weeks, she´s been visiting lots of kayakcenters all over Sweden and this last weekend, she showed up at the cozy Kajakcenter in Grebbestad on the westcoast of Sweden, owned and run by Mats Torwmo.

Helen threw two fully booked courses on Saturday and Sunday, together with the Öland based kayakdesigner Johan Wirsén. They were both paddling the Greenland kayak from Tahe Marine, a beautiful kayak designed by Johan and they made the day a very inspiring and fun day on the water. And a bit exciting too, cause we had to share the water with some stingy jellyfish that seemed to be very interested in paddlers hanging upside down in their kayaks. I seem to have a bit of bad luck when I attend rolling classes, since the first time I took a class with Dubside, I had to abandon the class after just 20 minutes cause I had a close encounter with a curious jellyfish who seemed to like my eyes. This time I "only" got stung on the backside of my legs. So maybe next time, if I´m lucky, I´ll only burn something less important, like a few fingers or so...

If you like to know more about Helen, check out her website Greenland or Bust and to read more about Johan Wirsén, look at his website Haveriet. Thank you Mats, Helen, Johan and all the other paddlers on the course for a great day!

If you click the pictures, they will be presented in a lightbox.

The bay was calm. A perfect place for a rolling class.

Lars was supposed to take only pictures today, but also took the time to do a few rolls before we headed back to the kayakcenter.

It was a big variety of boats attending the course, with an added paddler in each one.
